Oyo State Police Command, yesterday, said it has commenced investigation into the gruesome murder of Prof. Opeyemi Ajewole of the University of Ibadan by unknown gunmen.
Spokesperson for the Command, Adewale Osifeso, who confirmed the development to said the matter is under investigation while updates would be provided accordingly
Ajewole, a Professor of Social and Environmental Forestry at the university was said to have been killed on his way home, on Monday evening, at Moniya area of the city.
His killing has thrown the University into mourning.
It was gathered that his car was taken away after he was shot.
An official at the Public Communications Department of the university also confirmed the incident.
“Yes, it is true. But we are not sure if it is armed robbers or hired assassins.
“The incident happened yesterday (Monday). It had become a police matter,” the Public Communications official said.
