Buhari, who handed over to his successor, President Bola Tinubu, in Abuja, yesterday, left the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for Katsina shortly afterwards. He is expected to receive a rousing welcome from people of his hometown, at the event, which will be hosted by Emir of Daura, Alhaji Farouk Umar.

The new governor of the state, Dr. Dikko Radda, his deputy, Farouk Jobe, former governor, Aminu Masari, and other dignitaries are expected to grace the occasion.

Part of the activities include horse racing and riding by hundreds of community members and district heads, adorned with traditional gowns and turbaned caps.

Local hunters, political and religious groups, as well as market men and women, are also expected to participate in the welcoming ceremony. Already, security operatives have taken strategic positions across the council area, with paramilitary personnel, including plain clothed operatives, seen at various locations, yesterday.

Also, posters of the former president were seen adorning several walls within and outside the emir’s palace, while some youths were seen wearing T-shirts emblazoned with Buhari’s picture.

The private residence of the former president was also reported to have received fresh painting in preparation for his homecoming. Rooms at the major hotel in the council, Daura Motel, were said to have been booked out by guests, many of who had begun trooping into the ancient city, since weekend.
