The Delta State Government has launched an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system, also known as Plate Detect, to boost road safety and enforce traffic laws. The system uses cameras to scan vehicle number plates and check for offences like expired documents, speeding, and red light running.
If a violation is detected, the system will notify the vehicle’s owner via phone call and text message, with instructions on how to pay fines on the official portal, (link unavailable). The government warns that unpaid fines may affect vehicle registration renewal or lead to vehicle impoundment.
The ANPR system is part of the state’s effort to modernize traffic enforcement and reduce accidents caused by reckless driving. Motorists are advised to keep their documents up to date and follow traffic rules.
