Former South-East governors have thrown their weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, describing the move as “strategic”.
This endorsement came after a closed-door meeting in Enugu, where they formed the South-East Former Governors’ Forum to support serving governors on national and regional matters.
Speaking after the meeting, former Ebonyi State Governor and Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, expressed the forum’s support for Tinubu, citing his ongoing development projects across the country, especially in infrastructure. “We boldly say that all the governors of the South-East are supporting Mr President’s re-election, and we will continue to give them our full support,” Umahi stated
The forum, which includes former governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Sullivan Chime, Chris Ngige, Okezie Ikpeazu, and Martin Elechi, praised Tinubu for his inclusive appointments and infrastructure revolution in the South-East.
They also acknowledged the federal government’s support to state governments nationwide, contributing to achievements recorded by governors in the region.
Umahi revealed plans for the forum to engage directly with current governors, strengthen collaboration, and promote awareness of government initiatives.
The forum is open to all former South-East governors, regardless of party affiliation, and aims to foster unity and support for incumbent governors
