The Delta State Government has approved the transfer of Otor-Udu General Hospital to the Federal Government for the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Ovwian, Udu Local Government Area.
This development is expected to enhance healthcare delivery in the region.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, disclosed this while briefing journalists on some of the far-reaching decisions reached in the health sector, during the State EXCO meeting presided over by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
*Key Highlights:*
– *Establishment of FMC*: The Federal Government had approved the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre at Ovwian, and the Delta State Government has transferred Otor-Udu General Hospital to facilitate this.
– *MRI Machines*: The State Executive Council also approved the procurement and installation of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machines at three major hospitals in the state, including:
– Asaba Specialist Hospital
– Central Hospital Warri
– Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara
– *Benefits*: The MRI machines will enable patients to access high-end imaging services within the state, reducing referrals to other hospitals like UBTH and LUTH.
