The Office of former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has responded to recent comments attributed to Senator Emmanuel Aguariavwodo, Senior Political Adviser to Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, over the 2027 general elections in Delta Central.
Aguariavwodo was quoted as saying that Urhobo will vote massively for Senator Ede Dafinone and that Omo-Agege has nothing to campaign with.
In a press statement issued on 9th October, 2026, and signed by Godwin Anaughe, Special Adviser on Strategy and Communications to Senator Omo-Agege, the former Deputy Senate President’s camp described Aguariavwodo’s comments as misleading and challenged his political record.
The statement said the claims credited to Aguariavwodo were not reflective of developments in Urhoboland.
Responding to the claim that he has no campaign materials, the Omo-Agege camp listed projects it said were facilitated during Omo-Agege’s tenure as Deputy President of the Senate.
According to the statement, the projects include the Federal Polytechnic, Orogun; the Defence Space School, Orogun; the proposed Oil and Gas Industrial Park at Eku-Sanubi; and the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Kwale.
The statement further claimed that Omo-Agege facilitated the legal framework for the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, FUPRE, secured federal jobs, and executed school buildings, solar streetlights, transformers, water and ICT projects across Delta Central.
It specifically claimed that in Ughelli South Local Government Area, over 100 interventions were executed, including transformers, solar lights, water projects, ICT centres and school projects. *These claims have not been independently verified as of press time.
The statement also made a series of allegations against Senator Aguariavwodo’s stewardship while he held various offices including Member of the House of Representatives, Managing Director of the NDDC, Senator, and political adviser.
The Omo-Agege camp alleged that Aguariavwodo did not deliver significant projects to his constituency and questioned his electoral history. The statement further alleged that Aguariavwodo could not pass the FUPRE Bill during his time in the Senate, a bill it said was later passed during Omo-Agege’s tenure.
It also alleged that certain communities in Ughelli South, including Ovworigbala and Egbo-Ide, only received streetlights and shoreline protection interventions during Omo-Agege’s time. These are claims made by the Omo-Agege camp.
The statement also commented on Senator Ede Dafinone, who currently represents Delta Central, alleging that he has not sponsored any bill or executed visible projects. Efforts to get a response from Senator Dafinone’s office were not successful at the time of filing this report.
On the issue of power rotation within Delta Central, the statement argued that Governor Oborevwori’s alleged political arrangement would concentrate key positions in one federal constituency, a claim the statement said was against equity and fairness. It compared the situation to the administration of former Governor James Ibori, which it said adopted a more inclusive approach.
The Governor’s office and Senator Aguariavwodo are yet to officially respond to the latest statement.
The Omo-Agege camp dismissed a meeting reportedly convened by Aguariavwodo at Okpare-Olomu, describing it as not representative of Urhobo Nation, and referenced a rally held on October 4, 2026 in Ughelli in support of Omo-Agege and the New Delta Coalition, NDC.
It also alleged that a shop belonging to an organizer of the rally was sealed by the Ughelli North LGA Council.
The statement concluded by expressing confidence that Urhobo will support its preferred candidates in the 2027 elections, including Peter Obi for President, Ovie Omo-Agege for Senate, and Chris Iyovware for Governor under the NDC platform.
As of the time of this report, Senator Aguariavwodo, Governor Oborevwori’s office, and the Delta State APC have not issued a formal response to the claims contained in the statement.
