A Non-governmental organization, Smile Train Foundation in collaboration with Dental Centre, Central Hospital, Warri is to offer free Cleft lip and Palate surgeries to children and adult,
According to the team leader, a renowned Dental Surgeon and Maxillofacial consultan, Dr. Mrs. Omo-Agoja, the surgery is aimed at giving every child/adult opportunity to smile confidently
The exercise takes place at Central Hospital, Warri between the 31ST of July and 5Th August 2023 at 8: am daily.
Smile Train Foundation is an international non-profit organization dedicated to helping children with dental disabilities (specifically mandible deformities) to be whole again
A cleft lip is an opening or split in the upper lip that occurs when developing facial structures in an unborn Cleft lip may be unilateral or bilateral.
This condition goes with psychosocial challenges adolescent with cleft lips or palates often experience difficulty feeling socially accepted because of the societal connection between physical beauty and acceptability.
This can be a factor affecting their self-esteem and adult as well and how they engage in social relationships, as well as adjustment to adulthood and how they perceive themselves as adults. Studies involving adolescents and teens affected by cleft lips or palates reveal that many felt uncomfortable interacting in their communities due to concern over how others would view the facial difference.
In spite of medical awareness of possible solution, there are still children with cleft lip and/or palate (CLP) in low-resource areas who face social rejection.
